psubrat: (doctor - ten - rose - tardis)

With all the "spare" time I have, I've made it a personal policy to not get involved in reading long fics. Until today. I've been sucked in, and I mean that in the most literal and figurative sense.

Now I must pimp said fic. It's a Doctor Who/Blackpool crossover that is very well written:

The Way of Things by [livejournal.com profile] jlrpuck

It's a story set post "Doomsday" in the alternate universe where Rose was trapped when she and the Tenth Doctor opened the void - it's usually referred to as "Pete's world". Here's the summary...

It's been over three years since Rose and the Doctor said goodbye. What happens when she not only meets his doppelganger, but has to work with him?

So, uhm, yeah...guess what I've been doing today?

I LOVE this fic. I found it long ago and really, it gets me up every Monday and Thursday morning. Have you read the entire thing? I've read it through several times and if you can read all the comments you'll actually get more story. It's like crack in it's addictive power.

I just started it today. There's more story in the comments??? Oh noes! Now I'm gonna have to go back through the first seven chapters and read the comments. Damn.

The people commenting ask questions and jlrpuck answers so there is back-story and explanations! It's really a ton of fun. I go back throughout the day to read the comments after each chapter.

I should say that if you don't read the comments you won't actually miss any story just 'extras' like the DW Commentary's. She's working on a section of the story right now that takes place inside the original The Way of Things. If you go to her section called The Order of Things the entire timeline is plotted.

I finished "The Way of Things" yesterday, along with all of the ficlets leading up to the sequel. OMG! What an awesome story. I'm so glad I decided to give it a go. It's been a very long time since I read a long fic, let alone one that was written so damn well. I can't wait to read the next one! YAY!

Chris is downloading Blackpool for us to watch. After we watch it, I will read the fanfic. Sounds very interesting! Wow, it has been a long time since I read fanfic, probably not since X-Files.

I have to warn you, Blackpool is cracktastic. Seriously. You have to give it more than the first episode to really get into it. I giggled the whole way through, but it's so worth the watch!! And definitely you have got to read this fic. It was amazing!

I tend to favor long stories. I've found they often are the most layered and best characterized, although of course not always. Or maybe I just feel that way because I tend to prefer to *write* longer stories?

It's been so long since I read a long fic, but I definitely agree with you about the most layered and best characterized. This one was so worth the read. I'm glad I gave it a chance.

Or maybe I just feel that way because I tend to prefer to *write* longer stories?

My first Buffy fic was huge. It became a series. Everything after that was short ficlets. I was writing a longer one, "Some Rain Must Fall", but then I got pregnant and was so sick during the pregnancy that the fic suffered. I have every intention of finishing it, maybe as an original story. We'll see.

I was about to say that I haven't done a series, but now that I think of it my "Four Friends" stories sneaked up on me and became one, even though each individual story is self-contained. You could even call it a series within a series, considering almost all of my stories are in the same post-"Chosen" universe. Guess I'm just long winded!

In any case, I've got a Buffy/Doctor Who crossover and a Buffy/Angel crossover both halfway done, as just haven't had time to get any further with them. Real life will have its way with us, won't it?

Oh, mercy--I came over here to friend you, and didn't expect to find this entry. *blushes furiously* Thank you.

As for the comments--as [livejournal.com profile] tripocket mentions, I do tend to ramble on in response to questions in the comments to each chapter. It's not a habit I really got into early in TWoT (unfortunate acronym, I know, but, well...); but once it got up and running, the questions--and answers--started to really fly.

Thank you again!

I always pimp things I find well worth the time. And this story is definitely worth it.

I really want to go back now and read the comments. Now I'm torn...sequel, or comments. Hmmmm...
