Initial reaction: FUN!!
Fenella Woolgar as Agatha Christie was a great casting choice and according to David Tennant in the Confidential, completely HIS idea. HEE! ::pets DT::
I loved the bit where they referred back to "The Unquiet Dead" when Donna said, "It's like telling me that Charles Dickens would be surrounded by ghosts...at Christmas!" Definitely a laugh out loud moment like the "Are you my mummy" line in "The Poison Sky". Prior episode references are really huge this season and most have been from series 1 and all involve Rose in some way -- including the Captain Jack volcano reference in "The Fires of Pompeii". I have no idea where I'm going with this, but there it is.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the Agatha Christie mystery format and the fact that Gareth Roberts wrote the episode around Christie's actual disappearance. To me the explanation makes sense, but only because I'm a total geek. :)
More of the enjoyment factor: I felt like we were playing a game of Clue. Both Tennant and Tate looked like they were having a blast while doing it too. And, during the outside party, Tennant's dad made an appearance as a footman!
The only thing that I was disappointed in was the fact that I had the vicar pegged as the bad guy, BUT then I was happy that I had no idea what his connection was to Lady Eddison.
Ten being poisoned was an interesting idea. The scene with him, Agatha and Donna was funny and reminded me a lot of Jackie grilling him for what he needed in order to complete his regeneration in "Christmas Invasion". There were definitely some anvils being dropped in this episode, but most were the fun kind.
The running theme this season of them being mistaken as a couple continued. I'm not sure what Rusty has in mind, but there has to be a reason and it's driving me insane...in a good way. Oh, and fandom flailing its arms last week because of the preview of Ten and Donna kissing? Totally unfounded. You KNEW there had to be a reason. Even DT talks about it in the Confidential as something that Rusty seems to get a kick out of putting in. I'm not horrified by it all. Maybe it's because I adore Donna.
It was a good episode that gave us a break from the seriousness of "The Doctor's Daughter". Therefore, I give it 4 sonic screwdrivers out of 5 just for the fun factor.

Date: 2008-05-18 06:49 pm (UTC)Oh, please, please, please, please! They would just be so awesome at that. I'm tossing about some ideas for a new book project and two of the characters popping into my head are based on those two and that relationship.

Date: 2008-05-19 12:08 am (UTC)Once David and Catherine are both done with DW they have GOT to do a comedy series or movie or something together.
That would be brilliant!! We can hope, right? :)

Date: 2008-05-19 12:12 am (UTC)I must watch the Confidential again because I kept thinking, gee, David doesn't look like his dad very much. But then I was too busy giggling to get a good look. I think it's so cool that Dad!Tennant got to be in the ep.
