How about what was your first scifi related event that you ever attended?

My first event was a Vulkon Buffy the Vampire Slayer event in Cleveland, OH. That was April 2003 and the first of many, many, many conventions.

The lineup: Robert Atkins Downe, Iyari Limon, James Leary, Andy Hallett and James Marsters.

I had no idea what to expect and I was feeling a little weird about going -- mostly because I never considered myself one of "those" people. You know what I mean, the kind who go to SciFi cons and dress up in costumes to live out their fantasies...think Galaxy Quest. Of course I bought into the stereotype because I didn't know any better, ya know?

Anyway, I had a blast! I got to meet so many people from the two boards that I posted to -- We Band of Buggered and BAPS. In fact, I finally got to meet acristleo, bandcandy_peach, bubonicplague (I think it was there that I met her for the first time, though things are a bit hazy! *g*), dettiot, elizard100, eviljade, rockgoddes (though I didn't know it at the time), rusty_halo (a bit hazy on this one as well), scarlett2u, taradi. I met so many people that weekend, that I'm pretty sure that I've left a whole slew of people off the list. Plus, as I said, the weekend was sort of hazy because we drank some type of purple death in a cup in elizard100's room. Yes, "Purple Death in a Cup" is what Leary dubbed it, and he would know because he looked like death warmed over the next day. Whoops.

Oh, and I posted a con report...it can be found here. Reading that now, I was so young and innocent and just so excited about it all. Geez. Now I feel old and jaded. Maybe because I've been to so many since that it's old hat. Yeah, that it. :)

So you can all thank this particular event for kicking off my con addiction. If it hadn't been for Cleveland, I wouldn't know about 80% of you.

CLEVELAND! Oh, that was one of my favorites. Though yes, very hazy. You are definitely correct, though, that was indeed where I met you. Now I am off in a nostalgic reverie.

Cleveland! That was such fun. I roomed with rockgoddes and elizard100, met tons of people who are still on my FL, and yes, witnessed some wacky hijinks from James Leary.

I'm with you on the old and jaded part. I was such a naive happy little newbie back then!

That night with Leary, my goodness, I believe it'll forever be burned into my brain. Mostly though, I remember Purple Death in a Cup. LOL

I think we met at that one too, but only briefly... I was there with rackham (since it was right around our Anniversary) and, as I recall, we were hanging out with acristleo and her husband a bit over the weekend. I think. Wow... I guess memory really *is* the first thing to go!

There were so many people and I was so overwhelmed by it all that it doesn't surprise me one bit that we met. And if you hung out with acristleo then we definitely met! Wow, wish I could remember everyone, but like I said, things became a bit hazy after the Purple Death In A Cup. *g*

Wow, that takes me back. I'm trying to think when we first met. Was it a Moolight Rising? Conventions have started to blurr now. I can't remember which ones were which.

It may very well have been Moonlight Rising. I was also at Chicago Flashback Weekend and Vulkon Tampa as well that year. I became a con addict after Cleveland.

I was there too but didn't know many people except the fan forum gals. seems Chicago and Cleveland blend together in my memory.I'll have to post some pigs to refresh my memory.

I was at Chicago too!! And Vulkon Tampa. My list of cons for 2005 is huge and I can blame it all on Cleveland for kicking it off. It was such an addiction.
