Just in case anyone on my friends list isn't a member of [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_three, there's an interview with Gareth David-Lloyd over on AfterElton with some yummy pictures. It says there's some spoilers, but I don't think they're anything we haven't already seen on the show. I thought it was pretty safe to read and I'm a spoiler-phobe.

Hey there, [livejournal.com profile] cathyteach2 sent me over to talk to you. I just recently was diagnosed with PCOS and was in the ER dealing with the pain today. The ER doc prescribed a medication that cost like $200 (I don't have insurance), along with some Vicodin, but only like 10 pills so I'm gonna be out of that soon. Hopefully I'll get in to see my regular doctor sometime early next week. But hey, do you maybe have any recommendations for medications that have worked for you, and maybe don't cost $200? Thanks in advance.

Hi there. What type of pain are you having? Cystic ovaries? If that's the case, the only thing I can tell you is a heating pad and Motrin. My cystic ovaries usually don't give me too much pain, but when they do, I want to die. My PCOS also includes insulin resistance, high testosterone levels and depression. For the first two, my doctor had me on Glucophage which brought down all of my levels and taught me what I could and couldn't eat -- very little carbs, lots of protein. As a result, testosterone levels dropped to the point that I don't need the medication any longer. Plus, I have regularly monthly periods now -- every 28-30 days. Diet and exercise help that as well. But, yeah, Glucophage is the only thing I was taking for the PCOS. If you want to talk further about this, you can drop me an email -- brat at psubrat dot net. Hang in there.

Yeah, they did an ultrasound at the ER yesterday and said I have cysts on my left ovary. It's much better today with the Vicodin, but I'm still kind of miserable. I had a heating pad somewhere around here but I totally can't find it, and it's pissing me off.

Someone on my flist suggested getting checked for insulin resistance too, I definitely have to do that.

The only medication my doctor has me on for this right now is birth control, because I wasn't having any periods at all. The first one we tried was Ortho-Tri-Cyclin, but that made me have heavy, 2 weeks long heavy bleeding, so she put me on Progesterone to stop the bleeding, and now I'm on Ortho-Cyclin instead. It's only been less than a week, but I'm hoping this one works out better.

I have a feeling that I could control this condition a lot better with diet and exercise too, but of course that's really hard. I love carbs so much.

Thanks for the suggestions and the kind words.
