Time to change the locks again.

Where to start? So many good things about this episode.
I love the lighting this season.
I love the continued witty, light banter between the characters.
I have fallen in love with Ianto -- deeply and madly. That man had all the best lines of tonight's episode -- it was really a showcase for Ianto's comedic timing. Did it always work? Not perfectly, but he was funny.
My favorite Ianto exchanges:
Tosh: You said we weren't allowed to use that again.
Jack: It's just a mind probe.
Ianto: Remember what happened last time you used it?
Jack: That was different, and that species has extremely high blood pressure.
Ianto: Oh right, their heads must explode all the time.
Gwen: Jack, you can't do this. What if you're wrong. If she is human, it'll kill her.
Jack: I'm not wrong. We have to find out what she is.
Tosh: We'll take it easy Jack. We'll stop at the first sign of trouble.
Ianto: Or the first time of exploding.
And then of course Ianto pretends to be electrocuted. I laughed out loud during this whole exchange. I just couldn't help myself because I wasn't expecting it from him.
There are several other gems:
"They know more about this place than I do. Nobody knows more than I do!"
"I know everything. And it says it on the bottom of the screen."
"Mobiles, landlines, tin cans with bits of string. Everything. Absolutely everything. No phones. Phones all broken. Hello? Anyone there? No. Because the phones aren't working!"
Jack: Come on! Have a little faith! With a dashing hero like me on the case, how can we fail?
Ianto: He is dashing, you have to give him that.
Owen: And what if they can't stop it?
Tosh: They'll stop it.
Owen: Yeah, but if they can't...
Ianto: Then it's all over.
Owen: Let's all have sex.
Ianto: And I thought the end of the world couldn't get any worse.
I laughed. A lot. Considering the dark undertones of the episode, I find that quite impressive.
I'm still finding very little to go on where the Jack/Gwen "romance" is concerned. Sorry, just not feeling the love. So I'm not sure what to make of their interaction last week -- maybe just a writing error? Need to stop analyzing before head explodes.
I felt awful for Beth. She had no idea she wasn't human, no idea that she was a mass murderer. And instead of letting it take away her humanity, she died preserving it. Very well done, and very well written.
In just two episodes, we've been given two possible major arcs to follow: Jack's past, and now the alien invasion. It'll be interesting to see if these threads are picked up throughout the season, or if they're just things to toy with our minds.
Anyway, good stuff. I hope the rest of the season is as good as these two episodes have been.

Date: 2008-01-24 05:38 am (UTC)Me, too. I didn't really care for him last series - didn't dislike him, particularly (except in "Cyberwoman," anyway), but mostly he was just there with a few small witty comments. This series I'm really enjoying all the characters so much more than last season, even Owen, who is my least favorite.

*shrug* If you don't see it, you don't. I can easily see Jack/Ianto or Jack/Gwen (if Rhys were out of the picture, anyway, because I don't think Gwen would do that again, and I don't think Jack would let her, anyway).

Yeah, I felt myself giggling quite a bit despite the fact that I was very sad for Beth (especially during that last hospital scene with her sweetie) and that there was a bunch of blood and gore.
If things keep going this way for the rest of the series, I will be very pleased.

Date: 2008-01-24 03:46 pm (UTC)I can totally see Jack/Ianto. There's definitely chemistry there. I can also see Owen/Gwen. And yeah, I don't see Gwen doing anything if Rhys is still in the picture. Actually, I think Jack and a wall would work just as well. *g*
