I'm currently watching 1x10 - Out of Time. How I'm expected to believe that Cardiff, near Christmas time, isn't cold??? Diane is standing on the top level of a car park garage in a sleeveless evening gown and I'm supposed to think she's not cold???

I looked up Cardiff on a map and it's further north than Maine or Newfoundland, both places I know are chilly and snowy around that time. I get that Cardiff is on the water, but still, I would think coats, gloves and hats would be the order of the day, no?

It would be bloody freezing! Just like the rest of the UK. LOL.

I noticed that, too! That drives me so crazy when I see people running around inappropriately dressed when it's supposed to be winter. They did that in The Christmas Invasion, too, if I'm remembering the correct episode. Takes me right out of the story.

UK types are pretty hardy and it's actually common at Christmas time to see people in evening dress with no coat.

Newcastle is frikkin FREEZING but the lasses there go clubbing in very little clothing and I've stood in queues or gigs there where I've been freezing my arse off despite being wrapped up in jeans and jacket and there have been lasses in mini skirts , strappy tops , high heels and bare legs in the same queue seemingly unconcerned by the fact that they are turning blue.

The Gulf Stream is a wonderful thing. We're way warmer than the equivalent North American latitudes are.

In Dec 06 the high temp ranged from 57 to 37 (F) - as [livejournal.com profile] paratti mentioned, it gets hit by the Gulf Stream, so latitude doesn't play as much of a role.

Climate's fascinating, no?

England as a whole isn't as cold as here around Christmas. When I lived there for a semester in college, the puddles froze once. Otherwise, it is cool like fall in december, but not overly terrible or snowy.

It's not the latitude, it's more likely the ocean currents determining the temps.
