Dear Fans and Friends of Don S. Davis,

So many of you have been touched by not only the work and art of Don S. Davis, but by the man himself, who always took the time to be with you at the appearances he loved, that it is with a tremendous sense of loss I must share with you that Don passed away from a massive heart attack on Sunday morning, June 29th.

On behalf of his family and wife, Ruby, we thank you for your prayers and condolences. A family memorial where Don's ashes will be scattered in the ocean will take place in a few weeks, and should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don's memory.

I cannot tell you how sad this makes me. I was looking forward to meeting him at Dragon*Con this year because everyone who had met him in the past said what a wonderful gentleman he was.

I've enjoyed his work and was always happy to see him grace my television screen, no matter what show he popped up in.

The Sci-Fi world lost a great actor and a good man.

Oh, this breaks my heart. I loved General Hammond and the man who brought him to life. Such sad, sad news.

Oh, man. This is awful news. I got to sit with him one day at D*C, and he was the NICEST guy...super friendly to fans and loved talking to them. He even let me read part of the manuscript of a book he was writing about acting, which was excellent. At that point he was going to retire because he was having trouble getting insurance to work because of previous health problems. He did his doctoral work on renaissance staging and I really was hoping to talk to him more about it.

This is so sad. :-(

Oh, that's so sad. Thank you for posting.

My daughter's promised to lend me her Twin Peaks DVDs. This will make watching bittersweet.

Yeah - oddly, when I got home today, this news (over on journalfen) was the first thing I saw after wrangling my PC into submission. :(

'tis v. sad indeed.

I did meet Don at Gatecon several years ago and he was the nicest guy w/ some of the strangest stories. ;) We're gonna miss him at Gatecon.

That is really tragic. Wasn't he also Scully's dad on the Xfiles? My thoughts go out to his family.

But why, oh why, for the love of puppies, christmas, and everything sweet is Julie KomodoDragon Brown delivering the message?

!!

I had no idea!

I'm really sorry to hear that--he was fantastic as both General Hammond and, in one episode, as Scully's dad. I really enjoyed his work.

I was really looking forward to meeting him at D*C because of how much everyone talked about him. It's so very sad and I feel awful for his wife. :(

I've never seen Twin Peaks, but I may have to now just to pay tribute to him. So very sad.

I'm envious of everyone who met him -- you all say the same thing...what a wonderful, nice, charming guy, a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. I was looking at his art last night. What a talent he had.

Yeah, he played Scully's dad. That's what I really first remember him from though I'm sure I saw him in so much more (he has over 130 parts on his IMDB profile!!).

Julie was Don's manager and was tasked with the press release. I would have been working with Don this year at D*C, along with a whole slew of other actors who are managed by Julie.

He appeared in a few episodes as Scully's dad -- mostly in flashbacks. Even though I first knew him as Captain Scully, it was his run as General Hammond that I'll always remember him for.

Such sad news about someone so relatively young. ::sniff::

Yeah - I was in the autograph line and talking to him while he was signing some things for me and I moved off to the side, not wanting to be rude while he was still talking, but there were like 200+ ppl behind me who still wanted to get autographs. Very nice, but I have a feeling he could talk your ear off if you let him. ;) I loved that he wanted to meet the fans and 'hang' with them a bit. A lot of actors wouldn't do that.

It's too bad you didn't get to meet him. You'd have liked him a lot.
