The new Spock?

psubratLast night's episode was...touching, heartbreaking, and a little strange. I enjoyed hearing more about Gallifrey, the fact that the Doctor once had a family but lost them, and the witty banter that continues between Donna and Ten.
It was a strong episode, but yet, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it and I've had almost a day to process it. I may have to watch it again.
Before I say anything else -- Jenny is the new Spock. Seriously. Her death was telegraphed the entire episode, but when Ten smashed the terra-forming sphere on the ground so that it could spread over the planet, I turned to my friends who were watching with me and said, "She's going to die, but she's going to live like Spock." Sure enough. She didn't regenerate and she breathed out the same color substance the sphere released. Yes, she's part Time Lord, but I don't think she's able to regenerate.
I like that Jenny was formed by a tissue sample taken from Ten instead of fandom imploding with "OMG! The Doctor had sex somewhere along the way and he has a child!" Yes, I'm glad Stephen Greenhorn wrote it the way he did. I love that Jenny and Donna challenged Ten and made him look inside himself for the answers. However, I thought Donna was a little over the top in this episode demanding that Ten take responsibility for Jenny. Then again, Donna is supposed to be his conscious this season so I guess that was her job.
Did anyone else notice that the mark the tissue sample left behind was the same mark on the hand of Jamie in "The Empty Child"?
Why did they bring Martha back? That character has to have the WORST bit of luck. First, on Torchwood, she was implanted with a bug larvae and then had her life taken to the point that she was extremely old. Her character was a waste on TW. So now comes DW and the same thing is happening! She's cloned and then she's kidnapped, falls into quicksand-type pit and is ultimately responsible for the death of her companion (even though he was saving her). This poor woman can't get a break! Also, did anyone else have a flashback to the year that never was when she was walking the cold, dark planet, hugging herself? It reminded me of the scenes that they flashed of her during "The Last of the Time Lords".
Overall, was this episode enjoyable? I don't know because as I said, I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I'm not indifferent and I didn't hate it, but yet I wasn't calling it one of the best eps I'd ever seen either.
