psubrat: (torchwood - cast - season 1)

So...last night's Torcwhood initial thoughts:

I loved it!! We have DW!Jack instead of S1TW!Jack. I'm very pleased by that because I have always loved the character. He was funny, and witty, and just so very cute. Last season we had a very angsty, dark Jack and while I found him intriguing, I missed the fun.

The opening scene with the "blow fish" alien, was priceless. What an interesting choice of bad guy for our first episode of the season. Man, he had the team pegged, didn't he? Are we, therefore, to assume that all of the aliens coming through are aware of Jack's disappearance? Other than the year that didn't exist, exactly how long do you think Jack was out and about with Ten and Martha? And where was the team during that year that didn't exist?

Wow, what was that with Jack and Gwen?? Are we to believe that Jack has a thing for her? I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only time we got a hint of that was when he was showing her how to shoot the gun. Other than that scene, I don't remember any other interaction between the two that would constitute feelings on his part -- especially since he snogged Ianto good and proper in front of everyone last season. So, yeah, what's with the Jack/Gwen thing? Not that I'm complaining. I would just like to know where it came from. Also, he asked Ianto out on a date while they were searching that office. Loved Ianto's reaction to that -- he was too focused on finding the cannister to get really worked up about it. It was just like, 'yeah, whatever, sure'. Loved it. Now, did Jack do that because Gwen was unavailable or because he really, truly cares about Ianto?

I liked the banter between Jack and Captain John. But, at the end, when John said he found Grey and we see a child's hand slipping away from an adult hand...are we being led to believe that perhaps Jack has a child? It wouldn't be surprising since those 51st Century guys are very promiscuous. Could that be part of the two years that are missing from Jack's memory? I'm hoping that we find out more about Jack's past this season. He's a fascinating guy.

Is it me, or is Owen hotter this season? Last season I thought he was a bit on the creepy side, but perhaps that was just the lighting. This year, however, HOT! Loved the feeling out of Tosh to see if she was interested in him and her being absolutely clueless about it. I thought it was cute, and funny. Though, I think I'd rather see him with Gwen.

Gwen, what are we going to do with her? I know she's trying to hold onto a shred of her "normal" life, but I can't see a marriage to Reese working out, not with her being a part of Torchwood.

Overall, I give this episode two thumbs up. I definitely need to watch it again, but on first viewing, I love it!

I'm really looking forward to watching it on BBCA. Here's to hoping they don't cut too much out of it.

YAY!! Torchwood is back!!!

Hmmmm, the Jack and Gwen thing has almost an Angel and Cordy feel to it in a way. And again with Spike as the longlost "partner in crime" who makes trouble. LOL

Hallelujah!!!! Some that has BBC. No one I know has it, and I keep going on about Torchwood, and Jekyl when it was on, and Hex when that was on.

I love Torchwood. I skimmed over your post, but don't want to spoil myself for the return sesaon. I was completely comfused with the Jack thing in last Season's ep. He's gay???? I must have missed something along the way. I was always hoping he and Gwen would match up. I don't particularly like the Dr. Their love scenes didn't convince me.....

Glad you have BBC!

I think there's a bond between Jack and Gwen, especially since she sat by him in the morgue. It doesn't seem forced to me.

He's not gay. He's equal opportunity everybody (and thing).

John Barrowman is gay, though.

Actually, I uhm...I have BBC America and Torchwood starts January 26th. I haven't seen Jekyl or Life On Mars, but I have seen Hex and LOVED it.

Jack's not gay, he's multisexual. They explained in "The Doctor Dances" in series 1 of Doctor Who, that Jack is from the 51st Century -- So many species, so little time. He likes everything! LOL

From the very beginning I got a 'vibe' between Jack and Gwen, though more from Gwen's side than Jack's. I sometimes wonder, though, if Jack just doesn't think that his team is his, you know? Still, yeah, that was weird from Jack's point of view.

I don't really care for the Gwen/Owen pairing, and I adore Rhys, but, poor bugger, he's just going to end with his heart broken because I think Gwen is just so torn. She wants the stability and "normalcy" of a relationship with Rhys, and yet she craves the excitement of her job and the attraction of the men she works with.

And in conclusion, YAY TORCHWOOD! *g*

We've seen Jack interact sexually with Ianto, and we've seen him flirt with Gwen while they were shooting, but has he been that way with Owen or Tosh? I don't remember seeing anything like that with the other two. Granted, Gwen sat with Jack waiting for him to come back to life, because she believed in him, but that was her doing that, no Jack interacting there (though, kinda hard to do if you're dead). Maybe in the year that never was, Jack decided that what she did meant something to him. If that's the case, a little heads up by the writers would have been nice. LOL Just a few lines at the end of "The Last of the Time Lords" would have done it for me...right after Ten asked him to come along and Jack said he couldn't, he had work to do in Cardiff.

Guess I shouldn't think about it too hard. My brains might explode. :)

I'm quite surprised that you were surprised by Jack/Gwen. I've always thought it was the obvious meant-to-happen-but-not-before-a-while 'ship...a la Mulder/Scully or Scarecrow/Mrs King.

For some reason Jack doesn't want to act upon it yet...Ianto is nothing but a diversion.

Speaking of 'ship meant to happen, loks like Owen/Tosh is on its way too.

Owen has always been HOT, my dear. Owen is the Spike of Torchwood, the hottest and most romantic character on the show. :- )

Too bad Burn Gorman didn't get more time screen with James. They are both first class actors.

I got the S1 DVDs from Amazon as soon as they were released (I'd pre-ordered, of course!) and my daughter, Elena, and I watched it in a marathon viewing session. YAY! Now I finally know who's who (or should that be who's Who? *snerk*) and have some idea what my flist is going on about. Hmmm . . . I'll definitely have to wait for the second season, because both Elena and I thought Owen was totally creepy in S1 (and not hot at all.) Poor Rhys - I figured that relationship was over and done when Gwen gave him the amnesia pill - or at least it will be, if he finds out about it. Can anyone say "Willow" here? What with the using forgetting to smooth out relationships (which never turns out well).

But I can't wait to see KKBB, so am looking forwaqrd to downloading it when you put it up!

*hugs*

Hi all,
Please pardon me just butting in here, but I have a link for those who can't access BBCA, or missed it, want to watch it online, or just over again...
Link is below; it's via a website called Surfthechannel.com, which is an archive of links to movies, TV show epis, anime & cartoons, etc. Not even going to there about the legality of it all. It's much like the now-mourned TV-links. Click on the epi link; then a page will come up that tells you to type in the identifier code to the left in the little box; when you get that typed in right, it will route you to an Asian site called Tudou.com (also a mega-collection of links, like a giant You-Tube). There the KKBB epi will open. Click two times on the arrow in the center of the screen--a little orange mask-thingy will show up and look like it's filling up w/water or something for a few seconds; when that's done the epi will start. I believe it's in two parts there, so you'll just repeat the process for the second half as instructed. You can enlarge the screen as done on most viewers, to full page size. A tip---let the page w/the epi load, open & buffer after clicking & getting the mask thingy; once movement begins onscreen click the pause button, on the control bar beneath the screen. Let it sit, buffer, for a few. Otherwise it'll be choppy playback. Also, go ahead and open the second half just the same, in a separate browser window or tab (if using yucky Vista like me). Be letting it sit & buffer, paused, while watching the first half. Then just click off the first half's window & click over to part 2 , click play & it should play continuous & smooth, not choppy & buffering. I've never gotten a virus or bug or anything, not even spyware, from these sites. I've watched lotsa programs & new or old movies there too. Which BTW, is great, if you don't wanna chance paying huge sums for a movie you're not sure is going to be good anyway. VERY frequently there are small Asian subs somewhere on the screen, so if you don't mind 'em, this is a great site. For other shows, or movies, etc, click the channels pull-down menu button at the top of the Surfthechannel.com page. And if you're looking to watch brand new, even still in the theatres movies at this site, be aware that they get yanked off often, fairly quickly. So if you see something you want to watch, watch it then, don't snooze, it might, probably will be gone by next visit. Hope it helps!
BTW, I found your journal by following the link to your BtVS fic webpage, after reading some lovely fics by you just posted on Elysian Fields.
