While I'm not sure what to think of this, I do like the idea of an older companion. I liked Donna in "The Runaway Bride", but I'm just a bit surprised that they didn't follow their sweet young thing trend. Series four should be very, very interesting.

I was thinking they were going to continue with young companions, but make the next one male for a change. But this is fabulous news that they're going with an older character. Yay!

If you're referring to the Martha, yep, she's gone until halfway through next season and will be appearing on Torchwood for three episodes. I keep forgetting that DW hasn't aired here and some people haven't seen it, so I've changed the link to just News. It's so hard to know what's consider a spoiler and what isn't. ::sigh:: It gives me a headache it does.

This is less pleasing to me because I found her teeth-grindingly irritating in the Christmas special. If they tone down her screaming, I might be able to stand her. But if she's as screechy as in the special? Not so much.

What that Martha was to be switching between Torchwood and DW season 4.

It's not really a spoiler as the BBC announced and it's been on the main site and every other site for a couple of weeks.

Her teeth bothered me too, and so did the shrieking, but hopefully she won't be as harsh in that regard. I did like her character though since she really knew how to push his buttons and stand up to him.

Yes, but for the Americans on my FL, it's considered a casting spoiler since the show hasn't been seen here yet. Most of them don't even know Rose is gone.

Are you sure about that cause Rose left at the end of two and it's already aired.

Season 3 airs this week or next on Sci-Fi at least according to AICN.

If they don't know Rose is gone they've missed a lot tv episodes.

Yeah it really should and I hope she doesn't fall for the Doctor that is one thing that really bothers me about the show. Rose cool I mean the Doctor has to have someone he loves but if every companion loves the Doctor it gets kind of weak. (I'm so not trying to spoil) :(

OK, so maybe they know Rose is gone, but most don't know about Martha since they refuse to download episodes and want to wait until SciFi airs them. Shocking, I know, but I know a few like that. :)

That would be lovely, wouldn't it? I've had enough mooning with series three to last me a while. Martha could have been so much better if they hadn't written her that way. Like I said in my review of LotTL, I'm glad she told him the real reason she couldn't go off with him anymore.

Anyway, yes, I don't want companions to keep falling in love with him and I think Donna will be good for the show in that way. Hopefully, we'll get the same Donna we got in "Runaway Bride" because that one was snarky and stood up to Ten. Should be a fun and wacky season!

Totally agree. In fact, I think Martha could have been a fun companion if they'd taken this last year for them to just get to know one another, and allowed the relationship to grow. I'm not sure what RTD was thinking when he developed Martha's character.
